*Rules stipulate that at least five essays must be received in each
category in order to award a third place.
Each year the AYA sponsors an essay contest for youth to develop and express their skills and love of the Appaloosa breed in written format.
Essays are accepted each year between January 1 and May 1 for the two age divisions (13 and Under & 14-18).
Participants compete for US Savings Bonds and other prizes, and everyone who enters receives an award for participating.
