Declaration of Candidacy
This is an exciting opportunity for you to travel, meet other Appaloosa enthusiasts, and promote the AYA and the Appaloosa breed. Directors elected to this position will serve a two-year term beginning January 5, 2010. This is your chance to act as a youth representative of the Appaloosa Horse Club and gain leadership skills. The AYA directors meet twice a year, participate in activities such as giving awards out at the Youth World Championship Appaloosa Show, attending youth events, and possibly even attending the 2010 American Youth Horse Council Symposium to interact with other youth programs and leaders in the horse industry. I highly encourage you to consider running for election.
On the reverse side of this letter, please find a Declaration of Candidacy form. Please see the 2009 ApHC Handbook for all rules governing the Appaloosa Youth Association and the youth Board of Directors elections. This year, directors for Territories II, IV, & VI- Zone A & C and Territories I, III, & V- Zone B will be elected. You must be no less than 14 years old but not more than 17 years of age as of January 1, 2010. If you decide to campaign for the available position in your territory and zone, your Application, Photo, Statement of Qualifications and Statement of Purpose must be returned and be received in the ApHC office no later than November 6, 2009 in order for your name to appear on the official voting ballot in November. (Due to the short time-line, I urge you to fax your information to (208) 882-8150 and mail the photos in.) If you are unsure which territory and zone you live in, please look in the 2009 ApHC Handbook or the back of a 2009 issue of the Appaloosa Journal for a listing of states and territories and zones.
Your Statement of Qualifications should include information as to why you believe you are qualified to hold the office of AYA Director. Your Statement of Purpose should state what you plan to achieve while serving your term as AYA Director. Each statement should be approximately 1-2 paragraphs in length and no longer than 200 words in length. The ApHC reserves the right to edit content.
